In Memory of Army Spec. Haiming Hsia Vote for Ned Lamont

By Mary MacElveen

After writing my editorial, “God’s Speed, Ned Lamont”, I cried out as I read today’s Newsday.  While their front cover shows a reunion between a father and his child as he came home safe from Iraq, a dead soldier who also was a father received less print.

In memory to Army Specialist Haiming Hsia, I am asking all to read his story, End of his dream.  This fallen soldier leaves behind a three year old son named, Brandon Alexander Hsia, nicknamed "Pulpito," and according to Newsday his nickname means, "little octopus" in Spanish.”

Through Joe Lieberman’s support of this godless war in Iraq, Brandon will be forced to live out his life without his loving father, Haiming.  No more will he be able to fulfill his Spanish nickname and cling to his father like a “little octopus”.

Just for once, I would love elected officials such as Joe Lieberman to be there as that heartbreaking knock comes to the many doors as was just delivered to Army Specialists Haiming Hsia’s home.  I would love it if those that are supporting Lieberman to have to witness the news being delivered to these families that their son or daughter will not be coming home.

To those college Republicans that are helping Lieberman this weekend in the last push of his campaign, my message to you is this: HOW DARE YOU support a man who helped take the life of a little boy’s father.  Also again, why are you not over there, you cowards?

I have read story after story where these soldiers came home, not with hugs, but laying in coffins and I am angry at every single politician that can condone our soldiers being sent over to Iraq based on lies.  Brandon’s dad died as a result of a series of lies told to us by George W. Bush and Lieberman had the audacity to kiss that monster?  On Tuesday, we tell Lieberman that his time is up and we have had ENOUGH!

Lastly, Army Specialist Haiming Hsia was the only child of Nelida, 66, and Ting Fang Hsia, 78.  Both Bush and Lieberman took their only child and that is why you must vote for Ned Lamont on Tuesday, August 8th, 2006.  In casting your votes do so for the over 2,500 soldiers that will never live out the rest of their lives filled with promise.  Cast your vote for their families as they must live a lifetime of grief, pain and where family gatherings will always have a void.

Gaze upon this father Haiming and his son Brandon and cast your vote for Ned Lamont.
